Saint Johns Black on Red/Polychrome was made between 1150 and 1300 AD and was among the most widely traded of pottery types from the ancient Southwest. December Tucson Community Pottery Firing

Some of us will be getting together to fire pottery on December 6 in the desert southeast of Tucson. If you are interested please let me know so I can fill you in on the details.

I have developed a method for firing Salado Polychrome replica pottery on the surface that works pretty well. The problem is that I can't fire more than about 3 pots at a time and still get the atmosphere right. I will be doing an experimental Salado pit firing on December 6 to try to fire a quantity of oxidized organic painted pottery together. So if you would like to participate please make one or two pots with organic paint applied to smectite slip. I can supply the paint and slip if you need it.
