Back in February of 2020 I fired this big Fourmile

Back in February of 2020 I fired this big Fourmile Polychrome jar at Steampump Ranch, then I shot these photos using the replica pithouse as a backdrop. The pithouse is currently covered with a tarp and I am trying to find out when I can get access to the pithouse again to take a few shots for a documentary about the Hohokam that I am working on. Does anyone know who I can contact about getting a few minutes with this pithouse?

The Hohokam pot is not a real pot, it is made from plaster and painted with acrylic paint, but it looks good from a distance. But the polychrome pot and the pithouse are both authentic replicas.

Last weekend was my spring 3 day mug workshop. We formed our pots on Friday, slipped, polished and painted them on Saturday and fired on Sunday. Making and firing pottery outdoors in three days has its risks and there are always a couple cracks or broken handles. But everyone had fun, learned a little and came away with some great looking pottery. I will have another one of these in the fall, so sign up for my email newsletter if you are interested in getting in on the next one. Pottery can be decorated with a wide variety of natural materials. From organic paint made from boiled down plants, to different colored clays and different colored minerals. Manganese dioxide, iron oxide and copper carbonate can all make different colored paints. My spring mug workshop starts tomorrow and we will be using a lot of these materials to decorate our mugs. Every month we start a new replica project in the Ancient Potters Club drawn from the archaeological record of the ancient Southwest. Here is a look at what we have done so far this year. We just started on the April project last Wednesday so no photo of that yet but hopefully it will come out just as good as the previous three.
